The Popular Legislative Initiative (ILP) for the Extraordinary Regularization of migrants in an irregular administrative situation has marked a turning point in the recent history of social movements in the Spanish State. More than 700,000 signatures collected across the country have shown that solidarity is not an empty word, but a living, organized, and deeply human practice. Behind every signature lies a conviction: no human being is illegal.

From Som Sindicalistes Balears, we joined this collective effort by contributing our grain of sand. We did so from the streets, from workplaces, from our union sections, and from every space where we could explain why this ILP is a matter of social justice. Thanks to the involvement of our members, supporters, and comrades, we gathered more than 250 signatures, a humble yet firm gesture within a historic mobilization.

Regularización extraordinaria

An initiative that Appeals to Human Dignity

The proposal for extraordinary regularization seeks to open a path of recognition for around 500,000 people who today live, work, and sustain entire sectors of the economy under extremely vulnerable conditions. People who care, clean, build, transport, assist, and make everyday life possible, yet remain trapped in a legal limbo that exposes them to labor exploitation, social exclusion, and constant fear.

Regularization is not an act of charity. It is an act of justice. It means recognizing rights where work, community, and rootedness already exist. It means combating the underground economy, improving working conditions for everyone, and moving toward a more equal society.

The Power of the Collective

The signature-gathering campaign has been a powerful example of grassroots organization: associations, unions, neighborhood groups, religious communities, citizen platforms, and thousands of individuals have woven a network of mutual support that shows civil society is far ahead of institutions when it comes to defending human rights.

In this context, the participation of Som Sindicalistes Balears has been fully aligned with our purpose: defending the working class in all its diversity, leaving no one behind. Precarity and exploitation do not understand nationalities, and neither does our struggle.

Looking Ahead

The ILP now enters a new institutional phase. Parliament has the responsibility to listen to the hundreds of thousands of people who have made it clear that they want a fairer country. At Som Sindicalistes Balears, we will remain vigilant, mobilized, and committed to this cause. Because extraordinary regularization is not only a legal demand — it is an ethical imperative.

To everyone who signed, shared, collected signatures, or simply supported the initiative: thank you. This achievement is yours. And it is one more step along a path we continue to walk together.
